Mission Accomplished at the Charleston Boat Show
Charleston, SC--The 30th Annual Charleston Boat Show was on a mission to sell boats, as well as give back to the community, both locally and internationally. The Show, which was held January 22-24, at the North Charleston Convention Center, succeeded on both fronts.
Attendees were asked to bring five canned goods to the Show to receive $2 off their admission fee. The food collected went to benefit the Lowcountry Food Bank and feed many families in and around the Charleston area. “Through this effort, enough food was collected to prepare 1,443 meals,” reports Show Producer, Jacqui Bomar. On behalf of the Tri County Marine Trade Association, owners of the Charleston Boat Show, we are thrilled with the response we had and appreciate the generosity of those who participated,” Bomar added.
In addition to the canned food drive, the Charleston Boat Show also formed a partnership with Water Missions International, an organization that works around the world bringing clean water to people in need. “We felt it was important to give back not only to the local Charleston community, but also to help with the relief efforts in Haiti, since that is such an urgent need,” says Bomar. The Show successfully raised $2,168 for additional water purification systems being shipped to Haiti.
Charleston Boat Show Challenges Lowcountry Oyster Festival to Haiti
Fund-raising Contest
Charleston, SC --- The Charleston Boat Show has issued a fund-raising challenge to the Lowcountry Oyster Festival to raise money for the victims of the devastating earthquake in Haiti. The 30th Annual Charleston Boat Show and the organizers of the 27th Annual Lowcountry Oyster Festival encourage all Lowcountry residents to participate and show their support. All donations collected during the two events will be given to Water Missions International to provide clean, safe water for the disaster victims.
The Charleston Boat Show kicks off tomorrow, January 22, at noon at the North Charleston Convention Center and will run through Sunday at 5 p.m. The Lowcountry Oyster Festival will be held at Boone Hall Plantation on Sunday, January 31. Both events are open to the general public.
“The Charleston Boat Show and the Lowcountry Oyster Festival are two of the area’s most popular, well-attended events. What better way to raise awareness and make a difference than to come together as a community with a challenge to raise money for the crisis in Haiti,” says Boat Show producer, Jacqui Bomar.
“We are thrilled to have the Lowcountry Oyster Festival be a part of this fund-raising initiative and are willing to do whatever we can to support Water Missions International in their effort to bring clean water to the people of Haiti,” continues Kathy Britzius, executive director of the Greater Charleston Restaurant Association.
Water Missions International is a Charleston-based, nonprofit organization making headlines with their Haiti relief efforts. Thirty-two water treatment systems arrived in Haiti last week and Water Missions International has committed a total of 100 systems. Each system provides clean water for up to 5,000 people per day.
“Haiti needed clean water before the earthquake and the need is even greater now. Water Missions International has a team on the ground in Haiti working tirelessly to help the victims. We are thankful for all of the support from the Lowcountry and look forward to being a part of the Boat Show and the Oyster Festival,” explains Molly Greene, founder of Water Missions International. “We will have a water purification system on display at both events for people to see how our systems work and to learn more about our mission.”

The Charleston Boat Show and Water Missions International Team Up for Haiti Relief this Weekend!
Water Missions International will be on site at the 30th annual Charleston Boat Show to answer questions about their current relief efforts in Haiti.
Safe water is a critical and urgent need in the aftermath of any disaster. Existing water sources become contaminated, people are squeezed into refugee camps and temporary housing, sanitation is poor or non-existent and the threat of wide-spread disease becomes a daily burden. Water Missions International’s uniquely-designed water treatment equipment provides safe drinking water quickly after a disaster. A Living Water™ Treatment System can be transported easily by pick-up truck to remote communities that may be otherwise unreachable by other modes of transportation due to compromised roads and raging rivers. Once in place, the system can be assembled and operating within a matter of a few hours.
Since Water Missions International’s first disaster response after Hurricane Mitch in 1998, they have provided safe water and hope to over a million people in more than 38 countries around the world.
“We will have a water purification unit on display at the Boat Show so people can see how the systems work. If they so choose, guests at the boat show may make donations toward Haiti disaster response and learn about opportunities to assist with the life saving work of WMI,” said Molly Greene, Founder of Water Missions International.
Boaters are in the business of water for fun. Water Missions International is in the business of water for life. “The Charleston Boat Show has a loyal, dedicated following of boating and fishing enthusiasts. It’s our hope that they will support the amazing efforts of Water Missions International. With thousands of people at the Show, we know we can all help make a difference,” said Charleston Boat Show producer, Jacqui Bomar.
